Addiction Awareness Association strives to raise awareness, prevent addiction, and connect vulnerable communities with crucial rehabilitation resources on campus.
The organization plans to collaborate with rehabilitation centers, support groups, and healthcare providers to offer counseling and safe spaces. Future initiatives will include awareness campaigns, overdose response training, CPR and Naloxone (NARCAN) training, and outreach to Pittsburgh-area high schools to provide age-appropriate education on substance and alcohol misuse prevention.
Early efforts centered on introducing members to the science and demographics of addiction and connecting with local recovery organizations. Plans are in motion to bring in guest speakers from AA Pittsburgh and Gateway Rehab Center and offer hands-on training opportunities to members.
The long-term vision is to expand the organization’s presence, create meaningful volunteer opportunities, and strengthen partnerships with the Health Informatics department and the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences to broaden its impact on campus and in the community.
