Practicing the martial art of Japanese sword fighting

JOIN

What is Kendo?

Kendo, or "the way of the sword," is a Japanese martial art often likened to fencing. It aims to forge the mind and body of practitioners and facilitate the development of character through continued practice. Kendo is both mentally and physically challenging, as it combines cultural, meditative elements with competitive athletics.

Who are we?

The Kendo Club at Pitt promotes the practice of Kendo among the student body at the University of Pittsburgh. We welcome anyone with an interest in Kendo, including those with experience and those new to the martial art. We provide space for club members to develop their technical skills so that they may succeed in competition while always emphasizing the values of Kendo, namely respect for each another and the cultivation of one’s own spirit.
