About Us
PLISF is established to raise awareness of the needs and opportunities for public interest work for law students and lawyers. PLISF will exist as both a student organization and a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, working with but separate from the University of Pittsburgh student organization system. In its capacity as a student organization, PLISF will strive to provide and facilitate opportunities for PLISF members to learn about and work in the field of public interest such as by arranging volunteer opportunities, promoting job listings, publicizing conferences and workshops, coordinating transportation to off-campus events, and other assistance as so arises for the general PLISF membership. In its capacity as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, PLISF will strive to raise money from the Pitt Law student body and surrounding community to provide Scholarship funding for deserving first and second year students who wish to work in qualifying unpaid, public interest internships for the summer between school years. When feasible, PLISF may apply funding to the Loan Repayment Assistance Program to assist recent graduates under the sole discretion of the Board of Officers.
