Welcome to "Bridge to Success," your ultimate guide to conquering your first year at college! Each week, we'll dive into essential topics designed to supercharge your journey from newcomer to campus pro.

In Week 1, "Planning & Getting Ahead" (August 26th - September 1st), you'll master the art of Financial Wellness, learn savvy tips to budget your Pitt Eats meal plan, and fine-tune your schedule management skills.

Week 2, "Getting Connected" (September 3rd - September 8th), unlocks the secrets to booking study rooms, snagging a library card, navigating Pittsburgh's bus system, and discovering the city perks hidden in your Pitt ID.

As we move to Week 3, "Making the Grade" (September 9th - September 15th), you'll harness Academic Resources, visit the Writing Center for expert guidance, decode your syllabus like a pro, and perfect your time management techniques.

Week 4, "Getting Involved" (September 16th - September 22nd), encourages you to explore SORC activities, dive into the vibrant Fraternity & Sorority Life, and unleash your competitive spirit at Campus Rec.

In Week 5, "Taking Care of Yourself" (September 23rd - September 29th), prioritize self-care with visits to the Counseling Center, Health and Wellness resources, and energizing activities at Campus Recreation.

Finally, Week 6, "Building on Success" (September 30th - October 6th), prepares you for the future with insights from the Career Center, leadership training through Panther Leadership Academy, and a holistic review to ensure you're ready to excel.

Night Out in the City - Hamilton at the Benedum Center

Join us for a night out on the town! We will be leaving from Nordenberg Hall at 6:00PM via a bus. The show starts promptly at 7:30 PM. There are only 45 tickets available, sign ups will open at noon on September 9th on in the New Student Programs Office (WPU 923). Due to limited capacity, sign ups are only open for first year students actively engaged in the Bridge to Success program

No dinner is provided so please plan accordingly. Snacks and refreshments are available for purchase at the Benedum Center. Hamilton's run time is 2 hours & 45 minutes, for an approximate end time at 10:15, and a return to Pitt's campus around 11.

Self-Defense 101

Today, more than ever, it is important to prioritize our own health and safety. As part of this Campus Rec initiative, we are offering “Self-Defense 101” to help students build self-defense skills and self-confidence. This class focuses on a non-violent approach to self-defense class by providing a safe and inclusive environment to practice and learn applicable skills of awareness, safety, and self-protection. It is crucial to learn when not to fight, how to safely avoid conflict, and how to protect yourself when necessary. All attending are instructed and supported through light physical training for the development of fitness and mental capabilities including situational safety and basic defensive fighting skills. Linkedin Learning and Headshots*

Tech Ambassadors are preparing students for the Career Fair by providing free headshots and Linkedin consulting/education. Students will be provided educational material on how to fully utilize their Pitt Tuition-covered benefits for Linkedin and how to use it to help them prepare for the career fair. Students will also be offered an opportunity to get a free headshot from Tech Ambassadors. This event is similar to flexibility for a drop in such as a service desk but has more of a consulting and lecture component to it.

Stressed AF

Stressed AF is a relatable approach to mental health. Your physical and mental health is directly tied to your stress levels. Stressed AF teaches you how they are connected and how you can learn to live happily with stress. Presented by someone that also dislikes “lectures.” Since high levels or continuous stress can impact both a student’s mental and physical health. Their quality of life depends on how they are able to manage the stress they encounter. Learn to take control of what you can so you can be the most effective version of yourself. Stressed AF covers anxiety, depression, suicide prevention and offers realistic tools to take ownership of what they can change in their lives.

First-Year Leadership Opportunity: Resident Student Association (RSA)

The Resident Student Association (RSA) functions as the governing student body for our residence halls. RSA is the second largest student organization on campus. Each student living in a residence hall is already a member of RSA. Residence hall students are welcome to further their commitment to our community as Hall Council members. Beyond serving as the direct liaison between the residents of our halls and University administration, RSA plans amazing events throughout the year, and offers philanthropic opportunities.
