About Us

To empower girls and gender-diverse students to imagine a broader future through a curriculum grounded on female role models delivered by college women mentors, who are themselves mentored by professional women. Strong Women, Strong Girls strives to support positive mentoring relationships between college women and pre-adolescent students in underserved local communities with the vision that every mentee realizes her inner strengths to dream and do. Activities We host after school mentoring programs at elementary schools and community centers around the city of Pittsburgh. Using lesson plans made by the national SWSG office, we emphasize the importance of female growth and self-confidence through relationship-building activities and games, reading biographies of women who have made a difference in their communities, and journal writing. Outside of mentoring, we have weekly meetings with members of the organization to continue developing bonds with one another and discussing ideas. We also host fundraising events at local restaurants to help fund some of our activities and we put on social events for our members to get to know each other better.
