The Pittsburgh region has the second oldest population in the country. Age-Friendly Greater Pittsburgh is here for it! The initiative, led in part by Pitt School of Social Work, is dedicated to making the region more inclusive and respectful of all ages. Executive Director Laura Poskin will share how Age-Friendly Greater Pittsburgh—a leader in the global movement started by the World Health Organization—brings generations together to reimagine how our neighborhoods are built and to advance equity across our lifetimes.

The program will highlight students who have participated in various initiatives either by developing research projects in collaboration with community organizations or by working in the offices of elected officials, directly engaging with constituents.
7:30 PM – 8:40 PM
Come meet student organizations whose goals align with the Civic Action Week Theme "Enriching Our Community Together". Learn about easy ways to get started on your community engagement journey and all the different ways to have an impact in Oakland during your time at Pitt.
11:00 AM – 12:10 PM
Throughout university communities, faculty, staff and students utilize community engagement practices to enhance student understanding of democracy and civic participation. These initiatives help our students (and thus our colleges and universities) positively contribute to the greater good of our society through the student experience. In this session, the presenter will share a framework centered on critical community engagement and place-based learning which allow staff to facilitate these approaches intentionally and effectively.
1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Tuesday, September 16th is National Voter Registration Day. PittVotes plans to have a tie-dye station in the Gallagher Plaza of the WPU from 1-4pm, where students will be able to visit our table, register to vote (or check their voter registration status), tie-dye a PittVotes t-shirt, and get a free Kona Ice!
11:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Interested in getting more involved in the Greater Pittsburgh Community? Attend the Fall Volunteer Fair to meet with local organizations that need volunteers, like you, to drive their mission forward and make social change.
2:30 PM – 4:00 PM
Join us for a panel discussion to hear how experiential learning can help prepare you for a rapidly evolving workforce and equip you with critical skillsets to be an engaged global citizen ready to make a positive impact in the local community. Hear from professionals with a wealth of experience in career development, service learning, and global engagement, as well as from Pitt students themselves who have navigated these transformative experiences and are excited to share their stories with you, too. A networking opportunity will follow the panel discussion. Light refreshment will be served along with Global Distinction credit for Pitt undergraduate students.
