Pittsburgh's competitive collegiate climbing program. Two tiers, one team — we train, we travel, we compete.
Climbing at Pitt happens at different levels. Whether you're competing nationally, building toward your first competition, or just discovering the sport, here's how to find your fit.
The team is part of a wider climbing community at Pitt, and we want every climber on campus to feel supported. If you're new to the sport, the Pitt Campus Recreation climbing wall is a great place to start — free for students, with belay certification and clinics. Reach out anytime with questions about climbing, training, or the team.
The Training/Development Team is for climbers with a foundation in the sport who want to train within the program. Members participate in select practices and team activities as their development progresses.
The Competitive Team trains and travels for USA Climbing collegiate events. We compete at regionals, divisionals, and nationals — and we finished 3rd in the country in 2024.
The Club Climbing Team at Pitt is a competitive climbing organization dedicated to developing its members' athletic abilities through structured training, professional coaching, and participation in sanctioned competition at the local, regional, and national levels.
Beyond competition, the team is committed to growing the broader climbing community at the University of Pittsburgh — welcoming climbers at every level and fostering a culture where newcomers and experienced athletes alike can develop in the sport.
We operate a two-tier competitive pathway: a Competitive Team and a Training/Development Team, to support athletes at different stages while maintaining high standards of accountability, sportsmanship, and athletic growth.
Practices are held at the Pitt Recreation and Wellness Center climbing wall. Times may shift around breaks and competition travel — check the Events page for the latest.
