The car
The Sprite is RPM's project car, and rebuilding its engine is our top priority for this year.
We'll be sharing photos and progress updates here as the work moves along.
How the work will go
We're starting by assessing the car: photographing everything, taking inventory of the parts we have, and documenting the condition of each component before anything comes apart.
From there, we'll source any missing parts, send out anything that needs machine work, and begin reassembly. Work sessions will be scheduled around members' availability.
3D scanning and custom parts
Parts for an older car like the Sprite can be hard to find, and some aren't made anymore. We're working toward adding a 3D scanner so members can scan a worn or broken part, model it in CAD, and make a replacement, either by 3D printing it or having it machined.
The same process works for aftermarket parts. Members can scan the car or an existing part, design a bracket, adapter, or mount that fits, and check the fit on screen before anything gets made. We'll teach scanning and CAD through workshops, and every part we design gets documented so future members can build on it.
Getting involved
No experience is needed to help. Every session has tasks for beginners, and there will always be someone there to show you how things are done.
We also need help with measurements, parts research, documentation, and photography, all of which are a big part of keeping the project on track.
